Local Joe's Trading Post
About This Spot
Stepping into Local Joe's Trading Post feels like slipping into a cherished corner of Southern hospitality—a place where the rhythms of Rainbow City slow just enough to savor the kind of comfort food that connects generations. This is no rush-through spot; here, the pace invites you to lean in, to listen to the hum of friendly conversations mingling with the scent of smoky barbecue and fresh-baked treats from the bakery counter.
The ambiance is warm and unpretentious, evoking the charm of a classic trading post with a modern heartbeat. Natural light spills through windows that cradle a modest covered deck, perfect for lazy afternoons or casual dinners under open skies. You’re likely to find yourself surrounded by locals who come for the authentic flavors but stay for the easy camaraderie and familiar smiles.
Movement through the menu feels like wandering through a well-loved Southern kitchen. The pulled pork, tender and rich, pairs seamlessly with sides like creamy mac and cheese or bright, tangy slaw, inviting you to build your own meal memory by memory. Unique twists—such as a white sauce chicken breast or the playful BBQ pork flatbread—show the thoughtful care behind each dish, while unmistakable staples like pimento cheese dip or the colossal stuffed potatoes bring a sense of tradition refreshed.
This is a place where food isn’t just fuel; it’s a shared experience. Whether you’re indulging in a family pack of ribs layered with tangy baked beans and potato salad or unwinding with a plate of nachos crowned generously with pork, each bite carries the feel of community and history. The atmosphere lends itself to leisurely conversations—the kind you find when something about the place invites you to stay a while, to wander back through the stories shared around the tables.
Local Joe's Trading Post carries more than just flavor—it holds a kind of local reverence without a trace of pretense. It’s a spot where newcomers quickly feel at home and long-time patrons savor the comfort that comes from consistent care, both in kitchen and service. Local Joe's is a local treasure! Delicious food and good service. Tables so you can dine in and I think they've even added a small covered deck on the side for outside dining. In addition to barbecue (red and white sauce), they offer potato salad, slaw (vinegar and mayo based), mac and cheese, greens & beans, and several other sides, as well as, nachos, pimento cheese and many dessert items plus chips, jellies, jams, relishes, honey, etc. I'm pretty sure their fried pies are a popular menu item and come in many flavors to choose from. This place is definitely worth stopping in! The smokers are right outside the building and the smell in the morning is amazing and if you stop by in the winter, it feels fantastic to walk by them. You get the warmth and the aroma for a cozy, inviting reason to mosey on in for a good meal. I always get the turkey sandwich and it's so delicious and incredibly tender every time. Love it! My only advice is to carry cash because they have to tack on a tiny bit because of card processing fees if you use a card, afterall they are a small business and small businesses can't afford to eat all those fees card processing companies charge. And don't forget to drop a little something in the tip jar on the counter; these folks do a great job. They also do catering! Their vans are ready to roll to your next important event. And last Fall, they even offered pots of mums; they sat beautifully in the back of and surrounding their bright yellow vintage pickup truck out front. Definitely picture perfect; wish I'd have gotten a photo. Maybe this Fall

Hello Local Joe’s is fantastic! We rented a house close by and enjoyed all it offered the pork rinds, BBQ, FF, Slaw, etc., Soup Starter, cookies, sauce and service. Just fabulous! The people of that area don’t realize what they have in that establishment. Please open one in Lenoir TN.

We absolutely love this place to eat! The atmosphere makes it feel like an old timey store. The chicken bacon ranch cauliflower crust pizza is the best I have ever had.

They have the best strawberry cake in the world and their smoked chicken sandwich with white sauce is great too. One of my favorite places to eat in the area

I generally order a pound of pork, always fresh hamburger buns, and white sauce. Daisy always enjoys the smoked chicken. I also like their smoked turkey, as it is never dry. It makes a wonderful sandwich, especially with the white sauce.

Just went to dinner here and it was super quick and delicious, Thank you. I also got a hot apple cider to go and it definitely is a perfect way to end a delicious dinner on a cold evening.
